GS1 INDUSTRY STANDARDS

Global interoperability

In today’s hyperconnected society, most brands are targeting a global market. Regardless if you’re a multinational corporation or a sole trader, you wouldn’t want to limit your market to your own store.

But when trading with other partners, retailers distributors locally or global interoperability becomes the real challenge: it’s important for retailers to understand your product’s barcode if they want to sell your product. It’s equally important for logistic companies to understand your shipping label. Therefore, as a business, you want to make sure that your labelling meets industry standards.

Ensuring brands can have global reach

GS1, a global not-for-profit organisation, has developed a set of universal standards that are used all over the world. It’s important for businesses to follow these standards to ensure that they’re able trade with other partners, locally and internationally.

Created with industry standards in mind, Shping Security is an EPCIS-compliant serialisation and track and trace solution. It’s also compatible with any other industry standard systems, such as ERP and third-party track and trace solutions.

At the core of the Shping Security system:

Global Location Numbers (GLNs)

are used to identify system participants such as raw material suppliers, manufacturers, distribution partners and retailers.

Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS)

is a global GS1 standard that enables trading partners to share information about the movement and status of products as they travel throughout the supply chain.

SGTIN and LGTI

are used to serialise products at the item or batch level.

Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN)

are used to identify products and their relevant manufacturers.
